What we are

We’re an independent rental specialist working in Tignes — and across seven other French Alpine resorts.

We don’t own the properties we list. Instead, we bring together a wide range of chalets and apartments from local agents, private owners and trusted operators across each resort, and help you choose the one that’s right for your group.

Because we’re paid by the property and not by you, we have no agenda to push you toward any particular booking. Our job is to listen, understand what you need, and recommend what we’d actually book ourselves.

We’ve been doing this since 2009, when we started in Courchevel — and we’ve grown across the Alps from there.

Wherever you want to be

Across our eight resorts, we list around 1,550 properties — from studio apartments sleeping two to large chalets sleeping sixteen, from £400 per person per week up to chalets that rent for £150,000 a week and everything in between.

Most of what we list is self-catered — chalets and apartments where you’ve got your own kitchen and the freedom to come and go as you please. We also work alongside selected tour operators offering fully-catered chalets, for groups who’d rather hand the cooking over.

We don’t list everything. We only work with suppliers we trust — established local agents, tour operators we’ve known for years, and private owners with a reliable in-resort property manager behind them. That way, when you book, you can trust what you’re getting. And whatever happens during the trip, we’re here — before, during and after.

We listen first, then advise

When you get in touch — about a specific property, a particular resort, or just looking for ideas — our first job is to understand what you’re actually after. By phone, by email, however suits you. Some clients only need a short conversation; for others it takes longer.

Some know the resort well. Sometimes the exact village, sometimes the exact property type. The conversation is short: we listen, find the options that fit, send them through, and you decide.

Others are coming to the resort for the first time, or skiing for the first time altogether. The conversation takes longer. We’ll talk through how getting the kids to ski school actually works, which villages have free buses to the lifts, when to book ski hire and lessons, what lift access looks like from different parts of the resort. The booking only makes sense once the basics make sense.

Either way, most clients arrive with ideas shaped by what they’ve read or heard online — about a particular resort, village, or property. Sometimes those ideas are spot on. Sometimes they’re not. Our job is to give you honest information about what each option actually is, and an honest recommendation about what suits you.

Someone enquires on an apartment in Tignes Le Lac because they’ve read it’s the main village and the sensible place to base themselves. The conversation reveals what they’re really after — quiet evenings, a chalet rather than an apartment, and the feel of a proper alpine village. We talk through Les Brévières: the original Savoyard village at the bottom of the valley, traditional stone buildings, a river running through, with a quick gondola back up into the main ski area each morning and tree-lined runs home in the afternoon. They book a standalone chalet there for what an apartment in Le Lac would have cost, and arrive in the evenings to the kind of village they’d actually pictured.

Or someone arrives on the Tignes site because they’ve read it’s the best for snow. We listen, find out the group is mixed-ability — a couple of strong skiers, a couple of cautious intermediates, and a non-skiing partner who’ll spend afternoons in the village. We explain that Val d’Isère sits on the same lift pass, with a wider range of intermediate cruising on the Solaise side and a village centre that’s a much more pleasant place to spend a non-skiing afternoon than the upper Tignes villages. We point them at La Daille — the quieter, better-value end of Val d’Isère, with the Funival lift straight onto Bellevarde and the Tignes side of the ski area still right there from the lift. They book in La Daille and ski back into Tignes whenever they fancy.

When the recommendation is right, the trip runs smoothly. That’s where the work happens — in the conversation before it, getting it right.

That’s also why so many of our clients book with us again. Get the recommendation right, the trip works. Get it wrong, and there’s no flashy in-resort hospitality to paper over it. The advice is the product.

Sometimes the original choice is exactly right, and we tell you so. The recommendation is always yours to take or leave; we just want to make sure you have the information to choose properly.

Clear, accurate listings

The whole point of bringing chalets and apartments together in one place is that you can actually compare them. So our listings are set up to make that easy. Same information, same format, every time. Sleeping configuration, what’s included, how close to the lifts, where exactly the property sits — all visible on every listing.

Before any property goes live on our site, we check the details directly with the supplier.

For most of our privately-owned properties, we go a step further with Matterport virtual tours, so you can walk through the property yourself before you decide.

The same goes for price. To make comparison meaningful, the headline price you see is normally the total — linen, towels, cleaning and tourist tax included. Where a supplier handles things differently, we tell you upfront when we send the option through, so you’re always comparing like for like.

When you’re ready to book, payment goes through our secure online system. We recommend paying by credit card — it gives you the additional consumer protection that comes with card payments.

No nasty surprises is the rule.

More than just a property

The property is only part of a ski holiday. The rest is ski hire and lessons, lift passes, getting around resort, knowing where to eat — the things that turn a good week into a great one. Where we can help with those, we do.

We’ve built relationships with ski schools, ski-hire shops and other resort partners over many years — some over ten — and we share what we know with our clients. Where you go for lessons depends on your group and the level you’re at. Which ski-hire shop suits you depends on where you’re staying. We can point you to the right partner for your trip, rather than leaving you to guess.

Ski suppliers usually pay agents a commission for sending clients their way. Most agents keep it. We don’t. Where we can, we pass it back as a discount — typically 5% to 20% off rack rates. The saving belongs to you, not us.

Once you’ve booked, you’ll hear from us again before your trip. A member of the team will be in touch to find out what else you’re planning — lessons, ski hire, transfers, things to do — and pass on tailored recommendations and discounts. Some of our partners run limited-time offers through the season, and we share those with the clients they’ll actually suit. We also publish what’s-on guides for each resort and send out seasonal updates with practical information — when the lifts open, what’s happening in resort, anything we think you’d want to know. It’s a conversation, not an automated email.

And once you’ve arrived, we don’t go quiet. Phone or email, 7 days a week during the season — whether something needs sorting, you can’t figure out the resort buses, or you just want a restaurant recommendation. You’ll always talk to the same people.

Who we are

Chalets & Apartments was founded in 2009 by Theo and Clare, who were living in Courchevel at the time and saw a way to help local property managers and private owners reach more guests during a difficult winter. From there it grew through Méribel and Val Thorens, then into Tignes and the other resorts as more clients asked us to help them in the wider Alps.

Today the business is led by Ross, with a growing team across sales, operations and resort support. Between us we’ve got over 65 years of experience in the industry — and if you’d like to know more about the people behind every booking, that’s what our About Us page is for.
